Microbial
Ecology in Health and Disease
re-launches under an Open Access model
27 June 2011, Stockholm:
The Society for Microbial Ecology and Disease (SOMED)
re-launches its official journal Microbial Ecology in
Health and Disease today under an Open Access model.
As part of the new publishing strategy, the society has
chosen to partner with Co-Action Publishing.
Commenting on
the re-launch, Professor Marika Mikelsaar, President of
SOMED, said, “I wanted to keep the journal afloat as it
is part of the society’s identity; but I also wanted to
reinvigorate it, and we therefore chose to partner with
Co-Action Publishing who not only offered an Open Access
solution but also a lot of enthusiasm and
professionalism.”
Commenting on
the new arrangement, Senior Publisher Anne Bindslev
stated, “We are very pleased to be working with SOMED to
transition Microbial Ecology in Health and Disease
to Open Access and re-launch the title such that a much
wider community may access the journal content.
Now even the entire archive – dating back to 1988 – will
for the first time be freely accessible.
A growing number of scholarly
societies are recognizing that Open Access gives a boost
both to their official journal and to the society and we
are confident that SOMED will experience this as well.”
Microbial Ecology in Health and
Disease aims to draw
together research on different human microbial
eco-systems, and to increase our understanding of their
role in health and disease. Editor-in-Chief Tore
Midtvedt is joined by Associate Editors Elisabeth Norin,
Karolinska Institutet, Sweden, and Michael Wilson,
Eastman Dental Institute, United Kingdom.
